India, June 28 -- A rapidly spreading wildfire in north-central Washington has forced authorities to issue the highest evacuation warning for several communities near the town of Winthrop. Officials say the Hamilton Fire is threatening homes as firefighters work to contain the blaze amid dry and windy conditions.

Emergency officials have urged residents in the most affected areas to leave immediately, warning that the fire could spread quickly.
