India, May 31 -- The recent technical malfunction at the Gulmarg Gondola, which left hundreds of tourists suspended mid-air for several hours, has triggered fresh debate over infrastructure safety, emergency preparedness and maintenance standards at one of Kashmir's most visited tourist destinations.

The incident, which unfolded amid heavy rain and poor weather conditions, saw more than 300 tourists stranded inside dozens of cable car cabins after operations of the ropeway were abruptly halted following a mechanical fault. Panic gripped tourists as several cabins remained hanging hundreds of feet above the ground while rescue teams struggled against difficult terrain and worsening weather conditions to evacuate passengers safely.
