India, Sept. 13 -- A series of road closures, including a lengthy shutdown of the Tyne Bridge, will be in place across Newcastle on Sunday as around 63,000 runners take part in the 45th AJ Bell Great North Run, with the city council urging drivers and spectators to plan their journeys well in advance.

According to Newcastle City Council, the world's largest half marathon will once again start in Newcastle city centre before runners make the iconic crossing of the Tyne Bridge and continue on the 13.1-mile route to South Shields. To accommodate the event, closures will affect roads around the start area near the Town Moor and Exhibition Park, as well as the central motorway and Tyne Bridge, from Saturday evening through to Sunday afternoon...
