India, June 24 -- France is under red alert for heatwave as the temperature has crossed 40 degree celcius and it has caused a first major power outage, which has affected almost 68,000 households. The blackout struck northwestern France after extreme temperatures reportedly affected a transformer on the electricity grid.

The disruption comes as France experiences its hottest weather since records began, forcing authorities to issue red alerts, close schools, and warn residents about the growing impact of the severe heat.
