India, June 10 -- The FIFA World Cup returns in an expanded format, with 48 teams embarking on a month-long journey, fighting for the ultimate prize. Divided into 12 groups, each side will play three games in the league stage with an aim to secure a top-two spot. The best eight third-placed teams will also advance to the Round of 32. From this stage, the tournament will follow the traditional format. The World Cup 2026 will open with a big-ticket face-off between co-hosts Mexico and South Africa on June 11, while the final is scheduled for July 20.
