India, July 4 -- Hossam Hassan guided Egypt national football team to a historic victory after they defeated Australia national soccer team 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time in their 2026 FIFA World Cup clash in Dallas. The win secured Egypt's first-ever knockout-stage triumph at a FIFA World Cup and booked their place in the Round of 16.

After the match, Hassan celebrated by raising the Palestinian flag and dedicated the landmark victory to the people of Palestine. Egypt also became only the second African nation to win a World Cup penalty shootout, joining Morocco national football team, who previously achieved the feat against Spain in 2022 and the Netherlands in 2026.
