India, March 25 -- The Indian Premier League just hit a new financial high. The inaugural season winner, Rajasthan Royals, got sold for a staggering $1.63 billion, which is about Rs.15,290 crore, to a US-based group led by Kal Somani. That's a massive jump from what the franchise cost back in 2008. But the real story here centres on Shane Warne. 

Before the league even started, Warne struck a one-of-a-kind deal: for every season he played, he'd earn a 0.75% ownership stake. After four seasons with the Royals, his share reached 3%.
