India, July 25 -- Southern Europe is experiencing one of its worst wildfire emergencies in years with France and Spain struggling to contain fast-moving blazes whipped up by extreme heat, dry conditions and strong winds. Emergency teams in both countries are racing to contain the fires and more than 267,000 people have been evacuated.

France has deployed military forces and specialized aircraft and Spain has declared a national wildfire emergency for the first time ever. The crisis has also sparked concern across the UK, with firefighters still tackling a major wildfire in Scotland's Cairngorms National Park.
