India, Aug. 11 -- U.S. President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind embattled FIFA president Gianni Infantino, saying it would be a "terrible mistake" to remove him from the position. Trump's comments on Truth Social came after UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said trust had been "broken through deception" and reiterated their opposition to Infantino continuing as FIFA president.

Infantino has faced mounting pressure since the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal was revealed on July 28.
