India, Aug. 30 -- Country music icon Dolly Parton has been laid to rest in Nashville, Tennessee, days after her death from a brief battle with cancer, with her niece Lainey Mae Parton breaking her silence over the weekend to share an emotional tribute to the woman she called "Granny".

Parton, who died peacefully on 25 August at the age of 80, was buried in a small, private ceremony attended by immediate family on Friday, 28 August.
