Delhi monsoon exposes recurring drainage failures
India, Aug. 16 -- Heavy monsoon rain leaves Delhi flooded, exposing recurring drainage failures and severe traffic disruption.
For many Delhi residents, the monsoon this year has meant more than wet roads and cooler evenings. Over the past week, repeated spells of heavy rain have turned familiar stretches of the capital into slow-moving traffic corridors, flooded lanes and, in some neighbourhoods, waterways.
The disruption has been particularly severe on roads connecting Delhi with the wider NCR. Waterlogging has been reported in areas including Chhatarpur, Sangam Vihar, Kapashera, Mahipalpur, Okhla and parts of south and east Delhi, while traffic has crawled on routes such as MB Road, Ring Road and the Delhi-Ghaziabad corridor.
