Delhi launches reforms to improve water distribution
India, June 7 -- Government unveils measures to improve supply, efficiency and water conservation
In a bid to tackle recurring summer water shortages and modernise the Capital's ageing water infrastructure, the Delhi government has announced a comprehensive reform package focused on equitable distribution, reducing water losses and increasing the reuse of treated waste water.
The reforms come as Delhi faces mounting pressure on its water resources. During peak summer, the city's water demand has reached nearly 1,250 million gallons per day (MGD), while reduced flow in the Yamuna has led to a decline of around 100 MGD in water production in recent weeks.
