India, Aug. 26 -- A catastrophic high-altitude flash flood originating on the Tibetan plateau crossed the international border into northern Nepal on Wednesday morning, unleashing a destructive surge that carved a path of more than 200 km through narrow Himalayan gorges, central river valleys, and towards the southern plains.

The disaster has left at least 16 people confirmed dead, with officials warning that the toll could rise significantly as rescue teams reach isolated valleys. More than 36 people have been injured, while hundreds of people, including foreign tourists and border security personnel, have been reported missing or stranded.
