India, Oct. 19 -- The Dallas Mavericks waived veteran center Dwight Powell on Monday afternoon, bringing an end to the big man's 12-season tenure with the franchise.

The roster move arrived just hours ahead of the league-mandated deadline to finalize 15-man opening night rosters.

ESPN senior insider Shams Charania first reported the transaction as Dallas trimmed down its frontcourt rotation.

Powell served as the longest-tenured player in the organisation, having anchored the team's locker room culture through multiple eras since arriving in 2014.
