India, March 29 -- With polling for the 140-member Kerala Assembly less than two weeks away, the Congress-led UDF has managed to douse rebellion among several senior leaders who were denied tickets, with party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal playing a key role, sources said.
A major controversy had erupted after the Congress denied tickets to several of its senior leaders. These included Suji Joseph, Sanjay Khan, Vijay Indhuchudan, A. Shukur and Balakrishnan, among others. However, party sources said that Venugopal, who is also a Lok Sabha MP from Alappuzha, briefly camped in the state to give momentum to the party's campaign.
