India, April 26 -- The Congress party is keeping a keen eye on the elections in Bengal, as the outcome- whether victory or defeat-will inevitably impact Congress's own political trajectory. Judging by the party's strategy, it appears that it is less interested in a BJP victory and far more focused on securing Mamata Banerjee's defeat.
This interpretation is reinforced by the appeal made by Rahul Gandhi- Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha-to the people of the state via his 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle just prior to the first phase of voting.
