India, Aug. 12 -- The Ebola outbreak sweeping the Democratic Republic of the Congo has become the largest in the country's history, with confirmed cases surpassing 4,300 and deaths exceeding 2,000, according to the World Health Organisation's latest situation report.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo reported a total of 4,381 confirmed cases, including 2,011 related deaths, in data published on 10 August covering figures up until 9 August, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. That represented an increase of 172 new confirmed cases and 95 deaths since the previous report just two days earlier, on 8 August.
