India, July 29 -- Earlier this month, a devastating landslide happened in the Pengshui county of South China's Chongqing. Now, the death poll from the calamity has risen to 41, as search and rescue operations continue.
What Happened in Chongqing?
On July 17, 2026, a massive wall of rock and soil collapsed down a mountain slope on the banks of the Wujiang River in the Pengshui county of South China's Chongqing. The ensuing landslide collapsed into a residential and commercial street causing heavy damage.
Now, the death toll from the incident has risen. According to local authorities, the landslide has now caused 41 casualties, while 40 are still feared to be missing.
