India, Aug. 7 -- It began with something no sanitation worker or police officer expects to see. A plastic sack had been dumped near Chennai's sprawling Pallikaranai landfill. At first glance, it looked like any other bag discarded among mountains of garbage. Then someone noticed what appeared to be human fingers sticking out.

When officers opened the sack, they found a severed hand and legs. And guess what? It was only the beginning.

More Bags, More Body Parts

Over the next few days, investigators recovered additional plastic bags from different parts of Chennai, including areas near the Adyar River. Inside them were bones, intestines and other human remains.
