India, July 15 -- Residents across Boston and other parts of New England looked up on Tuesday to find the sky glowing in unusual shades of yellow and orange instead of its typical summer blue. The dramatic change was not caused by a storm but by a massive plume of wildfire smoke drifting south from Canada. Carried by high-altitude winds over more than 1,000 miles, the smoke reached the northeastern United States, altering the colour of the sky, dimming sunlight and prompting meteorologists to closely monitor air quality as smoke levels are expected to increase through midweek.
