India, Aug. 22 -- Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand's impressive run at the BWF Badminton World Championships came to an end in the women's doubles semifinals, where they were beaten by world No. 1 and defending champions Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China on Saturday. Despite the defeat, the unseeded Indian duo secured a maiden bronze medal after producing a memorable campaign.

The Indians made a strong start, taking the opening game 21-18 and putting the Chinese pair under early pressure. However, Tan Ning and Liu Shengshu responded strongly to win the next two games 21-13, 21-8, completing an 18-21, 21-13, 21-8 victory in 71 minutes.
