India, Aug. 16 -- Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and actor Himani Shivpuri on Monday highlighted Bollywood's continuing gender disparity and the gradual shift towards stronger, more complex women characters at the We Women Want Conclave, organised by NewsX and The Sunday Guardian Foundation. Bhandarkar, whose films have frequently explored women and the lesser-seen realities of industries such as fashion and Bollywood, said his choice of subjects is driven by the story rather than a deliberate focus on gender. "I always go for the script first. When I make a film, I always wonder what the script will be. How will it be? What will happen?" he said.
