India, Oct. 12 -- TheBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially nominated its Jammu and Kashmir unit president, Sat Sharma, as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, banking on its numerical advantage over the NC-led ruling alliance.

As per official sources, the party finalised Sharma's candidature under the third notification, which covers the combined election process for the third and fourth seats in the Upper House.

On the seat being contested by Sharma, the National Conference-led alliance holds 24 votes, while the BJP commands 28 votes giving the saffron party a clear edge and strong prospects of securing the seat.
