India, Sept. 26 -- For bank customers, Sunday, September 27, will be an unusual working day as public sector banks and regional rural banks prepare to open their branches ahead of a three-day nationwide strike. The government has made special arrangements to give customers an additional opportunity to complete urgent banking work before the proposed strike begins on Monday, September 28.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called the three-day strike from September 28 to 30, with employees seeking, among other demands, implementation of a five-day banking week. The timing of the strike follows the September 26 and 27 weekend holidays, which could otherwise have created a longer interruption in branch-based banking services.
