India, Aug. 5 -- The flood situation in Assam remained critical on Wednesday as continuous overnight rain raised fears of fresh flooding in several low-lying areas. The death toll has climbed to 89, while more than 1.22 lakh people remain affected across five districts. Relief and rescue operations are continuing.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the Dhansiri River at Numaligarh in Golaghat district remains in a severe flood situation, prompting authorities to issue safety warnings.
