India, Sept. 19 -- India's Asian Games 2026 campaign moved into the spotlight on Saturday as Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza came within one win of securing the country's first medal of the Games in teqball. However, her semifinal defeat means India will head into the opening ceremony without a medal, with Dsouza still having two bronze-medal opportunities on Sunday.

Dsouza was beaten 7-12, 12-9, 12-7 by Indonesia's Sumaya in the women's singles semifinal at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center. The Indian started strongly, taking the opening set 12-7, but Sumaya fought back to win the next two sets and book her place in the final.
