India, Sept. 20 -- India's women's badminton team made a smooth start to their Asian Games 2026 campaign, defeating Kazakhstan 3-0 in the Round of 16 at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium on Sunday.

PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda and Tanvi Sharma produced three straight wins in the singles matches, giving India an unassailable lead and sending the team into the quarter-finals without dropping a single game.

With the tie already decided after the three singles matches, the remaining doubles rubbers were cancelled.

India's women's badminton team has never won an Asian Games gold medal. Its best finish in the team event is bronze, achieved at the 1982 New Delhi Games and again at the 2014 Incheon Games.
