India, Sept. 18 -- The 2026 Asian Games are set to officially begin in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 19, with the multi-sport event running through October 4. The Games will feature 43 sports across 54 venues, with 469 medals up for grabs. India will be represented by 499 athletes and will look to build on its impressive showing at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, where the country secured 106 medals, its best-ever tally at the continental event.

Although the opening ceremony marks the formal start of the Games, competitions in sports such as basketball, football, volleyball, cricket and modern pentathlon have already been underway since September 10.
