Air India crash mystery persists one year on
India, June 7 -- Nearly one year after Air India flight AI171 crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing 241 passengers and crew on board and 19 people on the ground in one of India's deadliest aviation disasters in decades, investigators have established the sequence of events that caused the aircraft to lose power but have yet to determine publicly why it happened.
The Boeing 787-8 operating the Ahmedabad-London route crashed on 12 June 2025, roughly 32 seconds after take-off. Investigative findings released so far indicate that shortly after departure, the aircraft's engine fuel-control switches moved from RUN to CUTOFF positions, interrupting fuel supply to both engines and causing a catastrophic loss of thrust.
