India, July 6 -- As the first batch of Agniveers prepares to complete its four-year tenure in 2026, the Indian Armed Forces are reportedly re-evaluating one of the most debated features of the Agnipath recruitment scheme-the 25% permanent retention rule. According to media reports, the Army, Navy and Air Force have submitted recommendations to increase the number of Agniveers retained for regular service.
The review comes after the services assessed their operational experience over the past three years and found that trained personnel, especially those in technical roles, leave just as they become fully skilled. While discussions are underway, the Ministry of Defence has not announced any official policy change.
