India, Sept. 8 -- The upcoming 8th Pay Commission is expected to review pay and pension structures for central government employees and pensioners. While the final recommendations are still awaited, several employee and pensioner organisations have already put forward demands for a higher pension.
One proposal seeks to increase the pension under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) from the existing 50% benchmark to 67% of last-drawn basic pay. Another possible route for revision could involve applying a fitment factor to the existing pension. The actual pension payable, however, will depend on the recommendations eventually approved by the government.
