India, June 23 -- The continuous surge in housing costs and persistent inflation have increased the pressure on the 8th Pay Commission to review the current House Rent Allowance (HRA) structure. According to the employee unions and pensioner organisations, the existing system no longer reflects the realities of today's rental market, especially in cities where accommodation expenses have surged significantly in recent years.

The commission is evaluating the recommendations from stakeholders, and among all, one of the most discussed proposals is a comprehensive overhaul of HRA rules.
