Jammu Tawi, Aug. 20 -- The maximum permissible speed of trains on the 111-km-long new broad gauge rail section between Katra and Banihal under Northern Railways' Jammu division has been increased to 100 kmph, officials said.
The 111-km-long Katra-Banihal rail section is a crucial and technically challenging component of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link (USBRL) project, which is aimed at providing seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.
The railway ministry has approved the enhancement in the maximum permissible speed to 100 after all prescribed safety conditions were complied with by the railways, they said.
