JAMMU TAWI, Sept. 2 -- A teenage student drowned in the Chenab river after being swept away by strong currents while taking a bath in the Ramban district of on Tuesday, officials said.
The 19-year old victim was identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Tangar village in Ramban, they said.
Soon after the teenager drowned in the river at Maitra, teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, Army and local civilians launched a joint search and rescue operation to trace the teenager, officials said.
The search operation was underway as per latest reports.
