SRINAGAR, Sept. 6 -- Kashmir's upper reaches received the season's first snowfall on Saturday as rain lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing a noticeable chill and signaling the gradual transition towards autumn.
Light snowfall was reported from extreme higher reaches around Zojila Pass, Gumri, Gulmarg and the Pir Panjal range. Fresh snow was also seen on Mahadev Peak, while snowfall was reported from Kaobal Gali and Tulail Valley.
Rain was accompanied by hailstorms and gusty winds at a few places, including parts of Srinagar. An independent weather observer said the snowfall remained confined to areas around 3,900 metres and above, as forecast for the extreme higher reaches.
