India, Aug. 14 -- Jammu and Kashmir Police has emerged as the top recipient of gallantry honors in the country, securing 127 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day 2025 - the highest tally among all police forces.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced the awards list, which also included 2 President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 14 Police Medals for Meritorious Service for J&K Police personnel.

The recognition underscores the force's critical role in counter-insurgency operations, internal security, and law-and-order duties in one of India's most sensitive regions.
