JAMMU TAWI, Aug. 13 -- The upcoming session of the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Legislative Assembly, scheduled to begin on September 21, is likely to be held without a Deputy Speaker, continuing a situation that has persisted since the formation of the NC-led government in October 2024.
Five Assembly sessions have so far been held since the restoration of the legislature in the Union Territory, and the forthcoming session will be the sixth. However, the ruling National Conference (NC) has not filled the post of Deputy Speaker, which the BJP, the principal opposition party with 29 MLAs, has reportedly been seeking.
