MENDHAR/JAMMU, Sept. 1 -- All schools in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district were ordered closed on Tuesday amid heavy rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and nallahs, officials said.

The closure was ordered as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the swelling water bodies across the district.

The decision was conveyed through a notice issued by the Chief Education Officer, directing the closure of all schools in Poonch for the day.

Officials said the situation across the district was being closely monitored in view of the continuing rainfall and rising water levels.
