Jammu, May 12 -- For the first time since Independence, a national party government is in place in West Bengal, as the BJP secured a landslide mandate and the saffron wave defeated the TMC and its indisputable leader, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The meeting of the newly elected legislators was held on 9 May 2026, and Suvendu Adhikari was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party. It thus became crystal clear that the frontrunner for the Chief Minister's post was Adhikari.
