Yan Buki Residents Pay N50 Million Ransom to Bello Turji in Zamfara
Nigeria, Oct. 8 -- Residents of Yan Buki in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have reportedly paid N50 million to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.
The huge payment was reportedly made to secure the release of abducted residents and settle tax levies allegedly imposed on the community by Turji and his group.
Sources said the residents were compelled to raise the money amid growing pressure from the bandits, who have continued to impose financial demands on communities in the area.
The reported payment highlights the increasing burden faced by rural communities in parts of Zamfara, where residents are frequently confronted with abductions, ransom demands and illegal levies imposed by armed groups.
