Nigeria, Oct. 5 -- The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Nigerians to seek immediate medical attention for suspected cases of meningitis, warning that bacterial meningitis can become fatal within 24 hours.

Sarah Ogodo, Head of Communication and Media, NOA Jigawa Directorate, gave the warning in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse to mark the 2026 World Meningitis Day.

The theme of this year's observance is "Now Is the Time for Action," under the global campaign to defeat meningitis by 2030.
