Nigeria, Sept. 9 -- The Nigeria Democratic Congress has condemned the alleged obstruction of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, from accessing Yelwata community in Benue State to visit families affected by recent killings.

The party alleged that suspected thugs blocked Obi's convoy on Tuesday and prevented him from entering the community, where more than 270 people were reportedly killed in recent attacks.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC alleged that the group blocking the convoy was led by an aide to the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
