Nigeria, April 19 -- A 33-year-old woman, Olaide Adekunle, has been arrested by police in Lagos State for allegedly selling her infant daughter in a desperate attempt to repay a N600,000 loan.
According to reports, Adekunle, a resident of the Sango area in Ogun State, traveled to Lagos with her baby girl, identified as Mordiat Rasak, on March 15. Suspicion arose after she returned home without the child, prompting her husband to alert authorities.
Following her arrest, Adekunle reportedly confessed to selling the baby in order to settle a debt owed to a microfinance bank. The shocking revelation has sparked concern over child trafficking and the impact of financial distress on vulnerable families.
