Nigeria, Sept. 19 -- Low voter turnout was recorded on Saturday during the by-election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who monitored the exercise, reported adequate security arrangements at all the polling units visited.

Six political parties - the Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) - fielded candidates for the election.

NAN reports that INEC officials arrived at most of the polling units before 8 a.m., while election materials were also deployed on time.
