DR Congo Ebola Cases Pass 1,000, Nigeria Tightens Airport Screening
Nigeria, May 25 -- The Congolese Ministry of Health said on Sunday, May 24, that the country had registered 904 suspected cases and 101 confirmed cases of Ebola across three provinces and 11 health zones. At least 10 deaths have been reported, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The outbreak is centered in Ituri Province, where armed violence and mass displacement have complicated efforts to trace contacts and isolate infected persons. The United Nations estimates that nearly 922,000 internally displaced people are currently living in Ituri.
