Nigeria, Oct. 6 -- The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said he would restore fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027, but vowed to eliminate the corruption he said had plagued the system.

Obi made the declaration in a BBC interview released on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 and monitored by The News Chronicle

He outlined how he would tackle some of Nigeria's biggest economic and security challenges.

The former Anambra State governor said his position on fuel subsidy had not changed, arguing that the major problem with the policy was not the subsidy itself but the corruption surrounding its implementation.
