Bangladesh, Oct. 8 -- Farmers in Jashore are increasingly turning to commercial turmeric cultivation, encouraged by lower production costs, favourable soil and growing demand for the spice.

Turmeric farming is expanding across several upazilas of the district, known as the agricultural hub of southwestern Bangladesh, with support from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Farmers are also cultivating turmeric as an intercrop on fallow land and in the shaded areas of fruit orchards, making use of land that often remains unproductive. As a result, turmeric is gradually gaining importance as a profitable crop.
