Dhaka, Aug. 19 -- The upazila administration in Ghatail, Tangail, has seized and destroyed illegal Chinese fishing nets worth around Tk 4 lakh during a mobile court drive conducted on Tuesday afternoon.

The operation was carried out in the Boilla Beel area under Dhalapara Union, led by Ghatail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abu Sayeed.

Speaking to reporters, UNO Abu Sayeed said that they launched the raid following reports that illegal Chinese 'duyari' nets were being used indiscriminately in the beel, causing severe damage to native fish fry and aquatic biodiversity.
