Dhaka, Aug. 9 -- BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has reiterated his party's commitment to transforming Bangladesh into a democratic welfare state, should it regain power in the upcoming national elections.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with BNP's allied political parties on Friday, Tarique described the July mass uprising-led by students, workers, and the public-as the decisive overthrow of fascism after a prolonged struggle. He emphasised that unity among opposition forces is now vital for the country's progress.

While Tarique addressed the gathering from London, BNP leaders and representatives of allied parties convened at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
