Bangladesh, June 25 -- A record 20,740 old cases have been disposed of by the High Court in just four working days under a special initiative aimed at reducing case backlog and improving the efficiency of the judicial system.
Commenting on the disposal of a large number of pending cases, Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kajal said the steps taken by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to clear old cases in the High Court were commendable.
He expressed hope that the initiative would continue and said the Attorney General's Office wants to work closely with the Supreme Court to reduce the backlog of cases. He added that he had already met the chief justice and placed several suggestions to address case congestion.
